LONGFELLOW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

MOUNT VERNON, NEW YORK

The City of Mount Vernon School System was seeking space to house the expanded activities of the Longfellow School. The 24,000 sq ft addition was designed to contain flexible space for various school and public events.

Year-round programs provide a range of daily activities for children and adults including athletics, education, and arts and sciences. The design consists of a large flexible space with removable seating and because of this much of the space would be able to serve multiple purposes. This provides an area for a range of daily activities for children and adults. The building hosts a variety of athletic, educational, civic, and private events and activities including science fairs, lectures, and dances. Staff offices, meeting areas, and storage facilities support this space. Outdoor public areas adjacent to the building further promote social interaction and allow for outdoor activities and planned athletic events.
