SAMARITAN VILLAGE THOMPSON VERTERAN'S CENTER

RICHMOND HILL, NEW YORK

Project Type:

Healthcare and Institutional

Size: 19,000 sqft.

Samaritan Village has been helping Veterans at this location for over 30 years, and the building was depressing and in need of much work. Instead of completely filling in the site with a two story building, the architectural vision was to stack the floor plates to create an onsite backyard with patio, garden and a basketball court. A complete gut renovation and addition was done to accommodate a 50-bed Veteran’s recovery facility complete with clinical support offices, flexible group rooms, recreation areas, commercial kitchen, storage, staff offices and separate quiet and tv/ radio lounges.

The existing 2-story building was gutted down to the existing structure, including the removal of the front brick veneer. Two new floors were added with all new engineering and life safety systems, - all wrapped in a new front facade allowing large amounts of natural light creating a warm, inviting and proud and exterior finish. The interior design palate incorporated a variety of soothing paint colors, wood flooring, a bright kitchen spacious dining room, sensitive lighting and large clean bathroom facilities.
